Susie continues to watch her family through the years, but not as often. Buckley grows up, Lindsey and Samuel get married, and Grandma Lynn dies. Ray and Ruth are not together. Ray becomes a doctor and Ruth lives in New York. She believes Susie entered her body. Susie is now comfortable in her heaven because she has what she wants in heaven. Her grandfather is with her and they were watching earth. They see Mr. Harvey walks out of a diner into heavy snow. He sees a young girl that could be his next victim. There are many icicles hand over his head and one hits him and knocks him into a ravine. His body doesn’t get discovered until the snow thaws.

Chapter Twenty-Three
In chapter twenty-three Ruth is at Ray’s house. They are laying together and when she falls asleep he finds her journal entries and reads them. In them she talks about people being murdered. Ray’s mother is considering divorcing her husband, but she is glad to see that her son has a girl friend. Meanwhile in the Salmon house, Buckley turns thirteen and he gets a drum set for his birthday. Jack is ready t come back home from the hospital and Abigail is by his side. Lindsey asked her mother, “Are you going to hurt him again?”(page 317). Abigail says she’ll try not to.
Chapters Twenty-one and Twenty-two
In chapter twenty- one Susie watches Ray sleep and she thinks about there first kiss. It was by her locker at school and she wishes she could kiss him again. Ray and Ruth go to the sinkhole and wonder if Susie’s body is dumped there. Susie is happy because she guessed correctly. Mr. Harvey tries to go back to the neighborhood but the police see him and stop him. In chapter twenty- two Susie and Ruth switch bodies and Susie makes love to ray in Ruth’s body in Samuel’s brothers bike shop. When they finish they fall asleep and when Susie wakes up she is back in heaven and Ruth is back in her body.
Chapter Nineteen and Twenty
In chapter nineteen Abigail gets a call from the hospital saying Jack had a heart attack. She gets on a plane and goes back to Philadelphia . Samuel, Lindsey, and Buckley and Lindsey are still angry at her for leaving. Once Abigail gets to the hospital and sees jack and she brakes down in tears. Jack tries to make her fill better with humor. In chapter twenty Susie continues to follow Mr. Harvey as he is on the run. Jack and Abigail end up making up and Abigail decides to stay home with her family.
Chapters Seventeen and Eighteen
Susie continues to watch Lindsey even when she is twenty- one. Lindsey graduates from Temple University with her boyfriend Samuel. One day they are riding back home when there motorcycle brakes down. It starts to thunder and rain so they go in the woods to find shelter. They com across the abandon house they explore it and fall in love with it. Samuel ends up proposing to her and she is very happy. In chapter eighteen Ruth calls her father and she learns that the sinkhole that Susie’s body is in will be filled in so the area can be developed. Ruth plans to came back and check it out. Ruth lives in New York and works in a bar. She also wander’s around the streets, finding places where women and girls had been murdered.

Snapshots
In this
chapter Susie remembers taking snapshots with her first camera. Her pictures
made her feel good about herself. Abigail decides to leave her family and live
in her father’s cabin in New Hampshire. Grandma Lynn calls Jack and offers to
stay and help with the family. Jack will only allow her if she stops drinking
as much. She promises that she won’t drink until five in the afternoon. Another
year passes and Lindsey and Samuel have become much closer. Mr. Harvey moved
and had been gone for a year, and they were looking for him. Lindsey meets with
Detective Fenerman to ask if there are any leads in Susie’s crime, but when Lindsey enters the station she sees a red cloth on his
desk. It is a red scarf that belonged to her mother. When Fenerman comes around the corner, Lindsey
realizes that Abigail was having an affair with Fenerman.
Chapter Sixteen
Chapter
sixteen talks about the first anniversary of Susie’s death. Ray’s mother Ruana
is having problems with her husband because he is too devoted to his work and doesn’t
spend a lot of time with his family. Ruth and Ray become closer and people
begin to think their dating. Ruth has
candles and wants to have a vigil for Susie at the cornfield. Many people came
and left flowers for Susie. Later lots of people start showing up. As
the sun goes down, the cornfield fills with people holding candles. Lindsey
shows her mom, but she doesn’t seem interested in the memorial. Lindsey asks
her if she plans on leaving them. Lying, she says she won't leave them. She
holds Lindsey and then tells her to go tell Jack about the vigil. Buckley,
Lindsey, and Jack go across to the neighborhood and join the crowd.
